Chris Brown’s ‘TODAY Show’ Interview is a Step in the Right Direction for his Image

On Monday, Chris Brown stopped by the TODAY show to debut his new single ‘Fine China’ and promote his upcoming album. However, instead of talking about the new music, Matt Lauer took the obvious route and brought up “the incident,” and surprisingly for the first time Chris Brown seemed genuinely ready to open up about what happened that night in 2009.

Although Brown has talked about the domestic abuse in previous interviews over the last four years, he would often get visibly angry, change the subject and in one case even tried to throw a chair through a window in his dressing room.

In this interview, Brown still appears slightly uncomfortable and could use some additional media training, but what I liked about it was that his energy was positive and upbeat in spite of Matt Lauer’s awkward questioning. And even though he didn’t get too deep, he did try to answer every question and ended the interview on a good note.

All in all, Brown still has a long way to go to rehabbing his image, but I do think that this interview was a step in the right direction.
