Why Putting a Contact Form on Your Website is a Bad Idea

This is what I'm thinking when I see someone using a contact form.
This is what I’m thinking when I see someone using a contact form.

I really hate contact forms and think they are the worst thing that can be added to a website.

One of my pet peeves as a business owner is wanting to contact another business, journalist or blogger for whatever reason and finding a contact form on their website.

Aside from the fact that contact forms scream that you don’t actually want to be contacted, they rarely work. On several occasions, I’ve had people tell me that they never got a message I sent through their contact form.

So this means that a ton of messages  could be going undelivered and they never even know that they’re missing anything. Some contact forms even have character limits and/or don’t allow you to attach documents which could lead to extra correspondence.

So if you’re creating any type of website, please put your actual email or a phone number on the contact page instead of a generic form. You only get one time to make a good first impression online, so don’t put unnecessary obstacles in your way.
