GIRLS Star Zosia Mamet Generates Bad Publicity for Herself

Every time I read or watch an interview with Zosia Mamet I get the sense that she would rather be some place else.

Zosia, whose career has taken off thanks to her role as Shoshanna on HBO’s hit show GIRLS, doesn’t come off as media-friendly or savvy so when I learned that she launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a music video with her sister, I wasn’t completed shocked by the misguided approach (the unsuccessful campaign raised only $2,783 of the $32k they were after).

While Zosia has a list of respectable acting credits, she didn’t appear on my radar until GIRLS. I love what she does with that character and really think that she has a bright future ahead of her but she’s going to have to go back to the drawing board and get real about how to play this game.

If she wants to be private and let her acting speak for itself, then she needs to go the Johnny Depp route and disappear between roles. Because asking people for money while acting, speaking, or referring condescendingly to those same people is the epitome of hustling backwards.

Seriously, there were just so many things wrong with this campaign. Check out The Gloss for a good breakdown.

And then there’s this.
